This month has been particularly frustrating and stressful. I started with the Linlithgow round of the Scottish CX Series, where I took a satisfying win. However, less than a week later, I brought my CX season to an abrupt halt due to a crash that left me with a broken leg.
At Linlithgow, the new course was excellent, especially in the slippery conditions. It featured two sets of hurdles, a challenging off-camber section, and some super slick corners. Overall, it was a course I really enjoyed. I led the race from the start, securing the hole-shot and building a gap by the end of the first lap, which I extended throughout the race. I was pleased to take the win while also setting the fastest average laps of the day.
Unfortunately, I broke my leg while riding to the car wash to clean my bike. I am not entirely sure what happened, but I ended up on the ground in the middle of the road with a very painful leg. After hobbling home and making an evening trip to the hospitals minor injuries unit, I returned with a moon boot, crutches, and the diagnosis of a broken fibula. This injury prematurely ends what has been a frustrating and uneventful cyclocross season. My current aim is to make my return at the Chelva UCI Junior World Series round in late February.
Despite the setback, I was still able to attend the British Cycling ODS Program Camp in Innerleithen. While I could not ride, I participated in various workshops and sessions. It was a valuable learning experience and a welcome change of scenery for a few days.
Naturally, this month has been incredibly frustrating, but I am determined to come back stronger than ever.
I want to give a massive thank-you to Braveheart Trust for their incredible support over the past year. Their help has meant so much to me, and I am truly grateful. If you would like to support their cause, please check them out here.
